Endodontic Treatment

In a dental emergency, the first and most obvious step is to figure out what is the source of the pain and where it is located. If you are experiencing severe tooth pain, or if you have fractured or injured your tooth, then you should contact a dentist immediately. At Boerne Endodontic Associates we prioritize the treatment of emergency endodontics and will do our best to get you treatment right away.

The purpose of emergency endodontic treatment is to control any inflammation or infection that may be present and relieve the pain. There are several circumstances that may cause an endodontic emergency, and all of them should be treated as soon as possible. Dr. Kurt Myers has years of experience with these types of emergencies and will be able to diagnose and treat you quickly and professionally.

If you are experiencing a dental emergency, contact us today at (830) 217-3992. We'll get you scheduled and treated as soon as possible.

Types of Endodontic Emergencies

Bacterial infections are the most common cause of endodontic complications. Tiny fissures in the teeth caused by tooth decay are invaded by bacteria. The inflammation and bacterial infection from this condition can jeopardize the affected tooth and may cause an abscess to form.

Fractures and chips occur when a large part of the surface or crown of the tooth has become completely detached. The removal of the crown portion leaves the pulp exposed, which can be painful and problematic. It may be possible to reattach the pieces to your tooth, so place the pieces in a small container and cover them with salt water or saliva from the injured person.

If a tooth has been knocked clean out of the socket, it is important to rinse it and place it back into the socket as quickly as possible. If that is not possible, be sure to preserve it the same way you would a chipped piece. The tooth will be affixed in its socket using a special splint, then after the endodontist has successfully stabilized the injured tooth, root canal therapy is often needed.
